‘To risk the earth’ and to propose a cinématics of the soil starts from current diverse conditions of the ground to explore what radical film cultures of the future could look like. How might we think a planetary cinema of, through and for the work of soil? How might a cinématics of the soil impact film making practice and ethos today? How could one imagine experimentations with cinema witnessing the material and immaterial conditions of the soil as well as how soil’s processes and temporalities defy those conditions and to articulate other ways of being in the world? To understand the challenges and possibilities might neither lead to a cinema of end of the world scenarios nor to hopeful solution based imaginaries of ‘a healthy planet’ but to a messier cinématics.
