The journal\/archive is committed to promoting various modes of knowing by offering a platform for knowledge production and research on South Asia in both audio-visual and textual forms.<!--more-->\nWe consider the division between media practice and scholarly research to be mutually limiting as we acknowledge the new proliferation of very affordable audio-visual material in academic research, the abundance of camera-based research in ethnographic and regional scholarship, and the potential of documentary film to contribute to knowledge production. In this presentation, I will show how Dastavezi seeks to establish a platform for scholars and filmmakers to develop new theoretical and practical epistemologies in their engagement with South Asia.\n\nMax Kramer is a post-doctoral researcher at the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich, Germany. His research interests include documentary film practices in South Asia, political Islam, online politics, Hindi film, literature and cultural theory. In 2017 he obtained his Ph.D. on \u2018Mobility and Testimony: Independent Documentary Practices and the Kashmir Conflict\u2019 at the Institute for Asia and African Studies at Humboldt University in Berlin (published by Transcript, 2018).
