This talk examines the role of community filmmaking within the communities that the films are made in. Documentary films can play a critical role in building public support and engaging policymakers to advance reforms needed to increase access to justice. It was 2014 – I was in a military hospital because of a strange illness – when I promised to myself that I would gather the energy to produce my first film. This strong motivation was the result of events in Turkey in 2013 – such as the Gezi uprising and the corruption scandal from December 17th to 24th. Both sparked my interest in creating dystopian settings to portray the collective fear of Turkish society.
