Navy Cut

Saturday 11:30 h -
Wolfgang Schmidt, Berlin
The film “Navy Cut” deals with the figure of the sailor who is always present at the beginning of the 20th century when it comes to revolution. The sailors’ uprising in Wilhelmshaven and Kiel on 09.11.1918 triggered the November Revolution and the sailors of the battleship Potemkin are film legends. It’s about utopia and loss of utopia. The development period of the project, which began at the end of the 1980s, extends over the years of upheaval following the fall of the Berlin Wall. Navy Cut was created between 1990 and 1992 as a thesis at the German Film and Television Academy in Berlin. The discussion partner for the screenplay was Harun Farocki, who also has a small guest appearance in the film.
