Social media is becoming a central stage for different forms of storytelling, including visual stories of war. The talk will explore the role of visuals of conflict with the focus on the 2020 Nagorno-Karabakh-War. The images were collected from Instagram (under the hashtag #ArtsakhStrong) to study the themes put forward by Armenians, and their contestation by Azerbaijanis, who also inserted themselves into the narrative.
Jaana Davidjants holds a MA degree in political science from Goldsmiths, University of London and is completing her PhD in cultural theory at Tallinn University. Her research interests include humanitarian communication, social media activism, trauma & memory. She also writes regularly for feminist portals and magazines.
